Hitchhiker's

I don't know if you are aware or not, but The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is coming to theaters this Friday.

Now, I could have sworn that this was supposed to come out this summer right before War of the Worlds, but apparently I'm an idiot, and it is coming out this weekend.

I just wanted to make sure you were all aware because the book kicks ass and I'm hoping the movie will too. Additionally, it's been pretty slim pickings on the movie front, so this could be the change we're all hoping will come soon. I'm going. You should, too.

It is my experience that it is never too early for potatoe chips.

I would skip weddings for this movie. :)

I haven't read the book and I am going to see the movie first. Here's why: because if I like the book and I see the movie, I probably won't like the movie. But if I like the movie and read the book then I will think the book is better, but I will still enjoy the movie. That's how it worked for the first Harry Potter anyway - every one I've seen after that I haven't enjoyed so much.

Well, part of that may be the fact that every Harry Potter movie since the first one sucked, but I do agree with you. I did that with the first two movies in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and it worked out really well. And I would imagine that Hitchhiker's will not be as well done as LOTR.

Hypothesis: in the preface of the Hitchhiker collection i've got, the author does a great, humorous job of "clarifying" the differing plot lines. apparently, this whole deal started as a radio show. then it went to print in the UK. then it went to print in the US, then they did an audiobook. then another book was published somewhere and so on.... but apparently, none of the variations are the same. they all differ somehow, and all add and subtract here and there. So, i have faith in the movie. i think that no matter how different it is (or similar), it will correspond to the idea of the series in general.

so, to read, or not to read? ;o) i watched Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead the other night. i'm a bit existential lately....
