March Books

Here it is: The March book list.

1. Pyramids: This book was another Pratchett novel. It was not that great. I laughed, but it's not as funny as the ones about the witches, wizards, or watchmen.

2. Prince Caspian: I'm working my way through Narnia in anticipation of the movie that will be coming out at Christmas. It's still Narnia. I never really liked the first two books as well as I liked The Voyage of the Dawn Treader or The Last Battle.

3. The Last Continent: This was hilarious. It's another Pratchett novel in the Rincewind series. It's the direct follow-up, as far as I can tell, to Interesting Times. It has some great lines about the ineptitude of the faculty of Unseen University. Basically Rinswind goes to XXX (not Australia at all. Really. Not.) and wants to get away. Meanwhile, the faculty need him because he's the only one who knows the Librarian's true name, so they try to rescue him. It's funny.

4. The DaVinci Code: I already wrote a whole article about this, but my opinion can be summed up in two words: Davinci Crap.

5. Silver on the Tree: This is the final novel in The Dark Is Rising Sequence by Susan Cooper. Epic battles between good and evil ensue. It had lots of good quotes. On the whole, the sequence earns an A for action and excellent dipictions/definitions of honor.

6. The Fifth Elephant: Terri Pratchett's novel about Vimes's trip to Uberwald, where vampires lurk, werewolves chase, and politics are hiding around every corner. This book was excellent.

Well, that's it for March. The book list was a little shorter this month, due mostly to the fact that I got tired of reading. Not sure what happened, but I lagged a little mid-month, and the reading wasn't really happening. Enjoy the picks.

Awesome, dude... i had that lagging thing too. i only read one novel, the rest i listened to. i think march is just so boring anywyas...

this month, i read:

1. Evening Class by Maeve Binchy - character driven story about the students in an evening class that teaches beginning Itallian. Very fun, and i hear that it was made into a movie or something. the characters are really vivid, and the plot twists are nicely plausible, not too cheesy. a great one for a long drive.

2. Eat Cake by Jeanne Ray - how cake saved a family from falling apart. funny premise, and at times a bit fluffy and trite, but again, the characters are well-rounded. it was a different story, and it took place in the twin cities. enjoyable as an audio book, not sure how good it would be as a regular read.

3. The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis - i too am doing the chronicles of narnia series. its worth it!! fun stuff!!

4. Moo by Jane Smiley - another character-driven book about a midwestern university called Moo U that's going through budget cuts. very smart. tons of characters - like 20!!! and it was hard to get used to at first, but i really really enjoyed it after a while. i havent read a really good, true character driven book in a long time.

i think its weird that my books seem to go in trends. like this month is Character focused. last month was Important Issues and january was High Literature. i wonder, maybe i'm working my way down to Fluff for beach reading this summer? ;o)

who's counting the weeks till Harry Potter!!???

Dr. G-- Remember when we took 20th Century Lit together and the prof asked us what we read last summer, and I said that all the books I read were light and fluffy? Well, they still are. Feel free to join me during beach season. :) Here's my thing: There's too much drama in my real life (and on the news). When I get home, I just want to giggle. Or read about the epic battles between good and evil where good eventually (and obviously) always wins.

yeah, it just doesnt sound right to take The Brothers Karamozov to the beach, does it?

i just had an American Beauty moment - a plastic bag just soared right up to my 4th floor window and danced around for a second. go figure?

Very pretty. No, taking the bros to the beach is only good if they're real, and one of them is Hugh Jackman. That's just my opinion, though. Possibly some might like the Baldwins as well.

Band of Baldwins??
