i've seen that sticker a lot of places......

i stayed up as long as i could, watching the counts last night. i would wake up every few hours to a new state declaring support for one guy or the other. today, i'm really disheartened that even though "someone" is predicting that Bush leads in Ohio, Iowa and New Mexico, they are still not counted, and they still have absentee ballots out there to count too. so, why is Kerry conceding??? i really feel betrayed right now. wait it out, dude, please! just stick through till the final count. there is no graciousness in conceding when the race is so damn close and not even over yet. sigh.

so, have yourself a merry few days in which yelling and recounts will take over the peace.

The way I understand it is that, given the number of votes Bush is up in the state and the number of absentee ballots issued, the margin is too wide for Kerry to make up even if all the absentee ballots were for Kerry. Keep in mind that I got this information on Fox this morning, which is not known for its fair and balanced reporting, even though it claims to be.

The reason that Kerry conceeded while Ohio was still being counted is because (like Lo said) even if all the remaining absentee ballots were for him, it would just barely be enough to win the state. The OH Attorney General said that all the votes would be counted and I'm sure we will all hear if it goes Kerry for some reason.

If Kerry didn't win Ohio that means Bush has 269 electoral votes (Alaska goes Republican by at least 30 percentage points every election), so if Kerry wins all other states still out he also has 269 electoral votes. If the electoral college is tied then the House of Reps decides the President and the Senate decides the Veep. Since the House is controlled by the Repubs as well, it wouldn't make much different. And yes, that has happened several times before.
