Social Acceptance

I think I've decided that I'm going to take up smoking. Not neccessarily because I want to or because it's particularly healthy or because I have some false belief that I will somehow avoid dying from it or because it's particularly popular right now. No, I want to take up smoking more because it's socially unacceptable. It's becoming more and more socially unacceptable everyday. Sometimes, I just want to have a good excuse to go outside and do something defiant, and smoking is still more socially acceptable than screaming. Only psychopaths, lunatics, and the occasional banshee are allowed to scream in public, and all of these are regarded with fear and loathing, whereas a smoker is generally regarded with merely mild to severe disdain. A smoker outside is only hurting themselves, whereas no one is entirely sure who a screamer might hurt. It's a little sad that such a good, healthy burst of air is not more accepted, especially at educational facilities. I know a good number of people who would not have to retire nearly so early if they could just get a good yell in once or twice a day.

unfortunately the immediate (not to mention long term) reprocussions of smoking are not so fun.... when i go out for a defiant smoke, i always end up with smoke in my eye, or a hack for the rest of the day or a general loathing of myself for subjecting myself to the evil cancer stick. it sort of negates the principle of it in the first place.

i do recommend running up and down stairs a bit, if yu have them in the school. or, venting in a blog or over the phone. you can try leaving a message for yourself at home, and when you go home, ou can listen to your rant on the voice mail. should be fun.

i would say go smoke one, but some people are say... a bit asthmatic.... and that worries me... ;o)

I like the voice mail idea. I would really want to yell there too. I guess I could always take a drive and yell in my car. I do that sometimes, though then you look like you're road raging when it's really that you're job raging or just plain raging.

Asthmatic, shasmatic. If I'm going to be sick from it anyway, I may as well have a good reason. ;o) (I'm kidding, of course. Asthma is probably the only thing that keeps me from being a smoker. Well... that and the whole cancer, standing outside puffing in the winter, smelling like an ashtray thing.) It just seems like such an instant stress reliever for so many people. I want a magic stress reliever, too. (If anyone says "tea," they'll suffer the wrath.)

what kind of "tea" are you referring to, huh? i dont recommend "that kind" either tho... ;o) by the way, you wont look dumb whle yelling in the car anymore cuz everyone's got those handsfree cell phone things. they are glorious and gratutitous all at the same time.

I think you should become a Banshee... it might be fun. Dye your hair red, paid your face green and scream a lot... though what do Banshees do in their spare time?? Teach English?? :-)

You know, I thought about that, but then I decided that it might hurt my job opportunities. Not many people want to hire a green-faced, screaming, Irish folklore character.

If banshees teach English, they do it in disguise, but the whole point of becoming a banshee would be to be able to scream in public, which I couldn't do if people didn't know I was a banshee. You see the dilema.
