Check Out Those Links

Mostly because I don't have any time right now to write something witty and also because I really want to test out a post, I'm going to take this opportunity to tell you about one of the links on this site. May I highly recommend visiting My Nation. This site is cool because while visiting the Rogue Nation of Sunshine and Pink, you can even set up a nation of your own. This is fun for several reasons. First, the computer creates a government based on your answers to some carefully worded questions. (You can choose your own name and motto, though.) Then the computer sends you issues every day and you get to choose how you would deal with several political problems that are similar to those faced by the world at large right now. Your nation changes daily based on whatever hairbrained solution you accepted yesterday.

Next, it's fun because more obsessed players join the UN and get involved in forums, but most importantly, they set up their own regions that you can move to. If you know one of these weirdo--I mean people, you can join the region and compete against them for the top spot. They often leave obnoxious messages about their superiority on the region's message board, but everything has its downsides.

So enjoy the link, and hopefully by tomorrow I'll have something real to talk about. :)

i am proud to be the first comment to a posting by Lo... yay you for your dorkiness! ;o) and by the way, where the hell do you guys all get the time to invest in these computer thingys?? i mean, i spend a good portion of hte day on my puter... sigh. i guess, i am just jealous. ok? you heard it here.. i wanna be a techie too!!!

My first comment on my first post! :) Don't despair, Gonzo! You too can be a techie! It actually doesn't take that much time, especially if you type at home and then bring stuff with you to upload. (The Nation States thing seriously takes about 5 minutes each day, if that. And it's funny.) I don't have a ton of time on the internet, either. But it also helps if you are really really bored at work. :) The student body here thinks today is Friday, so it's been slow.

Hey do you want me to fix that pink up there around the quote? I can do that, I just have to find it in the code.

The pink looks a lot better when it isn't taking up the whole screen :)

i kinda like the pink... its pretty. i even bought pink flowers at the farmer's market in reverence for it... :o)

I think it can stay the way it is. :) Thanks for all your help! I really like it in all its pinkyness. Pink reverence flowers? Whoo hoo! Awesome!

Did you ever get a new computer or are you still using that POS I gave you way long ago?

Posted by: schdav at June 10, 2004 05:30 PM

Wow, was that over a year ago already? The time just flew!

It's not a POS. I have more problems with my printer than I do with the computer. They're both getting voted off the island when I go to grad school, anyway.

Lo is just afraid to join the U.N. because she'll theoretically have to comply with their mandates. Whereas if she'd have a vote, she could influence what else happens in the world. And she could always bail out. But our whole region lives in fear of her, because of her ass-kicking tendancies, so it's probably better that she's not in the U.N.

Glad its working out for you. I've got a lovely 10 year old laser printer that dims the lights and sounds like fingernails scraping a chalkboard, if you're interested. ;)

Posted by: schdav at June 12, 2004 01:39 PM

That actually sounds similar to the printer I already have, minus the dimming lights. I'll pass, thanks.

In answer to Carl's entry, who ever said I wanted to influence world politics? Rogue nation? Does that sound synonymous with United Nations Ambassador? Also, it's true. I do have ass-kicking tendencies, and the whole region should live in fear. Perfection has its price, after all. ;)
